Requirement for UIT code on all goods to/from Romania.

What is a UIT code?
The UIT code is automatically generated by the Romanian e-transport system when a shipment has been declared. The code is used to identify shipments within Romanian territory. The UIT code must be clearly marked on all transport documents without any corrections, deletions, or additions.

How long is the UIT code valid, and who is responsible for the code?
The UIT code can be generated no more than 3 days before the planned start of transport, and the code must appear on the transport documents no later than at the border crossing to/from Romania. The codes are valid for international shipments for a maximum of 15 days from the planned start of transport. The responsible party for creating the UIT code is the supplier, buyer, or 3PL/4PL who pays taxes in Romania.

  • For import shipments, this means that the sender, as stated in the customs export declaration, or the Romanian supplier registers the transport of the shipment in the e-transport system.
  • For export shipments, the recipient stated in the customs export declaration or the buyer in Romania is responsible for providing the UIT code.

Therefore, Interfjord must receive the UIT code from our customers in order to transport the shipment.

What if the UIT code is missing?
If the UIT codes are not included in the transport documents, sanctions can be expected. Transport of goods belonging to legal entities (you as a business) that have not registered a shipment in the e-transport system – this may result in a fine ranging from €4,000 to €20,000 for you as the customer and potentially the confiscation of the unregistered goods.

If the transport is registered, but the UIT code has not been correctly noted/registered, the fine will be between €4,000 and €20,000.

If the driver is unable to present the transport documents containing the UIT codes, this will result in a fine of up to €2,000.
